Children’s books are full of food; just think of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the Harry Potter books, Strega Nona, or Where the Wild Things Are—and there are vivid food memories in the Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Kara Keeling and Scott Pollard (Christopher Newport University) say children have to learn to understand their relationship to food before they can become fully a part of adult society.
