With Good Reason

Furious Love
September 22nd, 2012

No Hollywood marriage has ever managed to capture the world’s interest as much as the tempestuous relationship between Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. The press scrutinized their every move, and the public couldn’t seem to get enough of their volatile romance. Nancy Schoenberger (College of William and Mary) is the coauthor of Furious Love: Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, and the Marriage of the Century. Also featured: If anyone’s qualified to write a satire about football, it’s Inman Majors (James Madison University). He comes from a family of accomplished football player and coaches. In fact, the Majors family is known by some as “Tennessee’s First Family of Football.” His new novel, Love’s Winning Plays, is an affectionate tongue-in-cheek look at college football. And: Henrietta Lacks was a poor African American woman whose tumor cells were taken without her knowledge just before her death in 1951. Though HeLa cells launched a multimillion-dollar biomedical industry, the Lacks family was never compensated. The son of Henrietta Lacks recently shared his family’s story at Norfolk State University.
