Rod Serling may have gotten it right when he said, “There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man.” Physics professor John Simonetti (Virginia Tech) is exploring the possibility of an extra dimension beyond the three dimensions of space and one of time. Also featured: Andres Sousa-Poza (Old Dominion University) and his colleagues have pioneered a novel approach to address very complex engineering problems, by looking to the writings of Plato, Kant or Tolstoy. Also featured: November 2009 is the 150th anniversary of the publication of Charles Darwin’s extraordinary book, On the Origin of Species. Duncan Porter (Virginia Tech) has worked extensively with others on eight volumes of The Correspondence of Charles Darwin, one of the most important works in the contemporary history of science.
